Teddy Sweater KAL

I am so excited to bring this sweater to you. I have had this idea for a while, but only recently had time to fit it into my schedule. I wished I had done it sooner as it has immediately become one of my favorites.  Teddy Sweater is a unisex top down raglan pullover worked up at a DK weight with the added cuteness of a teddy bear face on the front “kangeroo” pocket. The pattern size runs from 3months to size 6.

Teddy Sweater is knit up in Malabrigo Arroyo, which creates a beautiful fabric at DK gauge. A perfect transitional garment for your little one.

Now, to celebrate how excited I am about this pattern, I decided to do a KAL in my group on Ravelry. The pattern is up for sale, but the KAL will begin on Monday to give everyone a chance to enjoy the holida weekend and get yarn together. The KAL will run through May 6th.

A funny little story about this pattern. When I initially sketched and swatched this, my 5 year old son was not even the least bit interested. So, I knit the sample in another size and moved on. When he saw it finished, he told me he wanted one, now. He wanted it red, with a black bear pocket. So, I will be knitting his during the KAL…not that I will finish as I have about 20 things on the needles, but I will try!  I hope you will stop by and knit with us. It should be fun. There will be some random pattern giveaways and a few prizes for participants, too.

New Pattern: Highlight

I told you I would be back this week. Well, here I am! I have a new sweater design for you. Highlight is a top down raglan pullover with a few extra details. It’s not your run of the mill raglan, by any means.

highlight1

Yes, that is me modeling. This sweater is a pullover design that utilizes brights and darks, color blocking and stripes. I am really loving bright bold colors and patterns lately. Maybe you noticed with my last shawl design (Flouro). This sweater has a few details, that are not entirely as obvious as the color.

highlight6

The sweater has a lowered neckline in front and also faux saddle shoulders. It is still all one piece, worked flat and then joined. No seaming involved, though you do have to pick up stitches for the collar.

highlight2

Look down at my hip. The seams are split and the back is slightly longer than the front.  I especially love this detail. I think I will really like layering this with a cami in the winter for extra warmth. It gets really cold here in North Dakota.

highlight3

The color and yarn choice are definitely elements that I thought very hard about for this design. I wanted brights and I wanted to pair them with something dark. I like the contrast. The brights are toned down a bit by the dark. Now, that’s not to say that this wouldn’t be great in another set of colors. It would be. You could have fun with it. Think about it a little. It could be a great stashbuster. Or something to use those minis up on. Each stripe could be a different color. RAINBOWS!!!!

The yarn is Rain City Knits Organic Merino fingering weight. It is a gorgeous yarn and really a pleasure to knit with. Krista has some of the most vibrant colors I have seen. In fact, when I was thinking about this design, her colors were what I had in mind.I do have some leftovers. I might be thinking of a hat.

Now, sometimes when I release a pattern, I put it on sale. I decided to put this one on sale, too. I have a promotion going right now to go along with Stockpile, too. This sweater pattern will be 35% off with the code HIGHLIGHT at checkout until October 5th.

Please check out my group! I will be putting together some fun giveaways this next few weeks and you wouldn’t want to miss out on yarn!!! and patterns!!! and extra stuff!!! Oh, and the next KAL. I also run my test knits there, so if you want in on one of those, let me know. I will be putting up a new one…hopefully next week. Maybe two, even. So, please stop by.

Fall is coming…

In some parts of the country, it may not seem like it, but fall is coming. Thank goodness. I love fall. I love every single bit about it. I love pumpkin, sweaters, the return to knits, the crisp air, the spooky evenings…Well, ok I don’t like that it leads into winter. If it could just stay fall all the time, I’d  be totally happy.

I’ve spent the past week sending kids off to school and then having most of the come down with some strange cold-like illness the past week.

I am enjoying a bit of a return to knitting myself. I, sort of, took the summer off. I mean, I still designed a few things, but my knitting time was drastically reduced. I chose, instead, to spend time doing things with my kids and just dealing with their day to day ruckus. I hope you don’t all feel abandoned!

Ha…well, I am back at it, full force. Right now I am working on a secret project I can’t talk about. It is soo fun. I can’t wait to show you. I am also working on some upsizing of my children’s pattern. I plan on doing a whole series of them. First up, is the Lady Abernathy, which is the upsized version of  The Abernathy Sweater

abernathy3

The Abernathy is arguably one of my best selling patterns. So, I can’t wait to finish it! Almost done with the body. The sleeves should fly! It is also being knit in DK gauge in Wollmeise DK and I am just loving it. When I start the second upsized sweater, I will let you see that one, too!

I also, can’t seem to quit working with chevrons. Currently, I am working on some FUN colorwork charts for some warm wooly bright colorwork hats.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this update. I am thinking of starting a Photo Friday of some sort. We will see what I come up with.

New Pattern: Bullseye

bullseye2-2

Hello! Look at that boy! Isn’t he looking sharp? Well, he is becoming quite the little sweater model. Yes, this means I put out a sweater pattern! I am a serial single and double skein purchaser. I always think that I will find a cute accessory to make out of them and sometimes, I do. It never fails, though…I usually will want to knit a sweater. That was the story of that green color there. Lounge Lizard in The Plucky Knitter Sweater is one of my most favorite colors in existence. It is so rich and vibrant and it just shines when my little guy wears it.

bullseye4

Bullseye is  knit top down, with a round yoke.  There are short rows to lower the front of the neck. It comes in sizes 12 months to 10 years.

bullseye3-1

This is a really versatile sweater. You don’t have to do “these” stripes. You can do any you would like. You could do more colors or only two colors. You could throw colorwork in there if you wanted. It’s really up to you. Don’t want to stripe the lower half of those sleeves? You don’t have to!

The yarn is the same I used for my recent Snowed In hat (also in the picture).  It is The Plucky Knitter Sweater yarn and I love, love, love it. It blocks so beautifully and the colors are just so saturated and lovely. I mean…look at them!

City Tweed Collection Giveaway!

So, as some of you already know, I have a pattern in the new City Tweed Collection from Knit Picks.  It is full of absolutely gorgeous patterns for their City Tweed Yarn line, which includes Dk weight and Heavy Worsted weight. There are several patterns I’d love to knit if I had the time. I may even try to squeeze one in. I do a bit of spare time knitting though, I usually choose to knit for my toddler.

chevronssmaller

My pattern, Chevrons, uses the Heavy Worsted version of City Tweed. It is a top down, round yoke, with simple and striking colorwork.  The colorwork was inspired by my love of simple shapes and geometry. Yes, that’s just how my brain works 🙂 It also has a turtleneck that you can button (as in the Knit Picks sample) or leave unbuttoned as in my daughter has it modeled below.

The Knit Picks description reads: Geometry is really the inspiration for this design with simple shapes set off by “planes” or single stripes. The Chevrons Sweater shows off just enough colorwork to keep one interested, yet not be too complicated to an adventurous beginner. Chevrons is a seamless round yoked sweater worked from the top down. The knitting is started flat and joined in the round after the collar while short row shaping raises the back of the neck for a comfortable sit.

I hope you like it as much as I do! The other patterns in the collection are also quite lovely. The  Hypatia Cowl, Stomping Grounds Pullover, Cabled Faux Argyle Cardi, Clarendon,  Scarf, and Chickadee Sweater round out the collection. To add to the fun Knit Picks has City Tweed on sale at 20% off until 9/25/13!

Pinterest! Prizes! A KAL!

It’s been a busy few weeks at Ninja8tofu central. The kids are heading back to school, my Mom is preparing for a big move, my gorgeous niece has moved to town for college! Oh and getting ready for the KAL and continuing to design and knit ALL THE THINGS! Phew! It’s also been very very hot. That can make knitting difficult at times.

kneelingsparetimesmaller2

So, this KAL…Yes, there has been some preparation for the KAL. I am really hoping everyone has a great time with it. I am very much excited for it! Being that this is a “Spare TIme KAL.” All the things having to do with this KAL involve our spare time. First, I started a pinterest board. This board will be filled with pins from now and throughout the KAL with things I like to do when I am not knitting. I will include activities, recipes, movies, etc. Whatever strikes my fancy at that moment or whatever I am doing, I will pin it. I am inviting others to pin-along, too.  Just message me on Ravelry or Facebook  if you would like me to add you, just remember you need to already be a pinner. If you aren’t a pinner, you will have to join Pinterest first before I can add you to the board for posting.

I am putting together some prizes, too! Of course, all the prizes will be in some way related to my spare time.  I’ve posted about two of them in the Ravelry KAL thread, already! I have more planned, too and I will reveal them as we go along!

There is a discount code (SPARETIME2) for 25%  off for both Little Spare Time and the adult Spare Time Pullover.
