An Indie Design GAL, What is an Indie Design GAL?

Have you heard whispers? Have you seen some posts? Have you stopped by the GAL group and wonder what is going on? Well, I am here to help out a bit with this. Show you some info that can answer your questions. An Indie Design GAL is a gift a long/ knit a long put together by Independent knit wear Designers. A BIG gigantic group of us have gotten together to offer a discount on our patterns and run a ginormous KAL. It is really big and there are a lot of prizes. A lot of prizes might be a bit of an understatement.

So, first of all…the designers who run the GAL have a very informative group on Ravelry. In this group, they have this awesome and very informative thread. This will tell you pretty much everything you need to know about the Indie Designer GAL.

Here is my image for the GAL…It includes 11 of my 20 eligible patterns.

They had us bundle all of our patterns with a feature on Ravelry called, “bundles”. It is quite handy! Here is a link to that bundle. Now the sales start November 13th at 8pm EST and will run until November 21st 11:59 pm EST. You use the GAL code, giftalong2014 at checkout. The discount for every pattern offered, is 25%.

To go along with this gigantic sale, I will be featuring other designers on my social networking sites, including here on my blog, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. So, if you don’t follow me on those, you might want to. I can’t promise that I will be terribly interesting, but I will try!

New Pattern: Highlight

I told you I would be back this week. Well, here I am! I have a new sweater design for you. Highlight is a top down raglan pullover with a few extra details. It’s not your run of the mill raglan, by any means.

highlight1

Yes, that is me modeling. This sweater is a pullover design that utilizes brights and darks, color blocking and stripes. I am really loving bright bold colors and patterns lately. Maybe you noticed with my last shawl design (Flouro). This sweater has a few details, that are not entirely as obvious as the color.

highlight6

The sweater has a lowered neckline in front and also faux saddle shoulders. It is still all one piece, worked flat and then joined. No seaming involved, though you do have to pick up stitches for the collar.

highlight2

Look down at my hip. The seams are split and the back is slightly longer than the front.  I especially love this detail. I think I will really like layering this with a cami in the winter for extra warmth. It gets really cold here in North Dakota.

highlight3

The color and yarn choice are definitely elements that I thought very hard about for this design. I wanted brights and I wanted to pair them with something dark. I like the contrast. The brights are toned down a bit by the dark. Now, that’s not to say that this wouldn’t be great in another set of colors. It would be. You could have fun with it. Think about it a little. It could be a great stashbuster. Or something to use those minis up on. Each stripe could be a different color. RAINBOWS!!!!

The yarn is Rain City Knits Organic Merino fingering weight. It is a gorgeous yarn and really a pleasure to knit with. Krista has some of the most vibrant colors I have seen. In fact, when I was thinking about this design, her colors were what I had in mind.I do have some leftovers. I might be thinking of a hat.

Now, sometimes when I release a pattern, I put it on sale. I decided to put this one on sale, too. I have a promotion going right now to go along with Stockpile, too. This sweater pattern will be 35% off with the code HIGHLIGHT at checkout until October 5th.

Please check out my group! I will be putting together some fun giveaways this next few weeks and you wouldn’t want to miss out on yarn!!! and patterns!!! and extra stuff!!! Oh, and the next KAL. I also run my test knits there, so if you want in on one of those, let me know. I will be putting up a new one…hopefully next week. Maybe two, even. So, please stop by.

Stockpile and Sale.

Some of you may know that the Malabrigo Junkies group here on Ravelry, runs a KAL every October called October Stockpile. This is a huge event and every year I usually do a coinciding sale for all things Malabrigo. So….

First off, they are spotlighting “Quickie” patterns. Quickie patterns are patterns put out by independent designers in conjunction with Malabrigo ya]rns. They are patterns that specialize in using between 1 or 2 skeins of yarn. My “Quickie” pattern is called The Roseway. It’s a garter stitch shawl, knit on the bias with a scalloped edge and eyelet detail. It’s quite simple, but goes very quickly! Perfect for a quick knit. It will be on sale for 40% with the code Quickie at checkout.

New Pattern: Backup Goalie

backupgoalie

I have a new pattern to show you. I’ve called it Backup Goalie. I am so excited about this one! I actually started this hat last spring, but had put it on hold for a bit so that I could finish some contract work. I figured releasing a “hockey” themed hat in June, probably wasn’t the best idea. I guess it isn’t really “hockey” themed aside from the colors, but I call it “hockey” themed due to the fact that its inspiration comes from the backup goalie. I remember when I was younger, I would catch a glimpse of the backup goalie sitting on the bench, usually hatless or with a baseball cap on and I would think to myself that their heads looked cold. Seriously, that’s what I thought. It stuck with  me. What can I say?

The pattern is a colorwork pattern that starts with 1×1 ribbing. The body has a chevron-ish colorwork pattern, which works it’s way to the crown which is done in a star pattern. The crown was really fun to design.

backupgoalie2

The hat pattern includes instructions and charts for 2 weights: fingering and worsted. The worsted hat only has one size, but the fingering hat includes a Medium size. If one is comfortable playing around with pattern repeats and gauge, it is possible to come up with several different sizes.

The yarn. Oh, the yarn. Both the fingering weight and worsted weight hats use a yarn I call a favorite. First of all, the fingering weight hat uses Sunshine Yarns Classic Sock. It’s a nice plump sock yarn that just knits up gorgeously in colorwork. The worsted weight hat is done up in the bouncy, cushy, Plucky Knitter Primo Worsted.  The fingering weight hat is knit at a looser gauge and that makes the hat a bit more slouchy. One could also use a sportweight yarn at this weight for something a bit less slouchy or if they have trouble getting fingering weight to work at the stated gauge.

kings1

The black and gray versions (Los Angeles Kings’ colors) have been adopted by me as they match my winter coat. My daughter has taken the blue and gold version (Buffalo Sabres’ colors). They have been worn almost non-stop since finishing. The weather here has been a little on the cruel side. One day it’s 80, the next it’s 30. There may have been a few 70’s in between, but not many!

I almost forgot to mention! For the first 3 days of it’s release, I am offering the pattern at 1.00 off! So, until midnight on the 26th, Backup Goalie will be $1.00 with the code BACKUP13 at checkout.

Pinterest! Prizes! A KAL!

It’s been a busy few weeks at Ninja8tofu central. The kids are heading back to school, my Mom is preparing for a big move, my gorgeous niece has moved to town for college! Oh and getting ready for the KAL and continuing to design and knit ALL THE THINGS! Phew! It’s also been very very hot. That can make knitting difficult at times.

So, this KAL…Yes, there has been some preparation for the KAL. I am really hoping everyone has a great time with it. I am very much excited for it! Being that this is a “Spare TIme KAL.” All the things having to do with this KAL involve our spare time. First, I started a pinterest board. This board will be filled with pins from now and throughout the KAL with things I like to do when I am not knitting. I will include activities, recipes, movies, etc. Whatever strikes my fancy at that moment or whatever I am doing, I will pin it. I am inviting others to pin-along, too.  Just message me on Ravelry or Facebook  if you would like me to add you, just remember you need to already be a pinner. If you aren’t a pinner, you will have to join Pinterest first before I can add you to the board for posting.

I am putting together some prizes, too! Of course, all the prizes will be in some way related to my spare time.  I’ve posted about two of them in the Ravelry KAL thread, already! I have more planned, too and I will reveal them as we go along!

There is a discount code (SPARETIME2) for 25%  off for both Little Spare Time and the adult Spare Time Pullover.

Spare Time KAL!

Phew! Ok, today is the day. I am announcing the KAL officially so that you may get ready! First of all, it is a Sweater KAL for both adults and kids. I am really excited to share this news with you!

Introducing, to go along with Spare Time Pullover, I present, Little Spare Time. I hope you all like it!

kneelingsparetimesmaller2

This pattern is a little different than the adult Spare Time Pullover. The children’s is top down and knit in a lighter gauge with a little bit less positive ease.

littlesparefrontsmallLike the Adult sweater, there are optional pockets in the side seams. Also, like the adult version, the kids is edged in garter stitch. Simple, but lovely stitches! The yarn used is The Verdant Gryphon Traveller. While it’s not required for the KAL that you use the same yarn, I highly recommend this yarn. I love it. You might remember that I used this base in my Knitty pattern Kindling.

The Little Spare Time KAL pattern is only a presale right now. The adult version is ready to go, though.

Use code SPARETIME1 for 30% off through the end of August. Sept 1st-16th, use Code SPARETIME2, for 25% off and from the 17th through the 30th of September use code SPARETIME3 for 20% off. These codes are also good for the adult Spare Time Pullover. Regular price for both of these patterns is $5.50

When you purchase, you will receive an info page to download. It will allow you to get your yarn and needles ready for our September 16th start date. The pattern file will go out in an update to buyers either the 15th or 16th of September. The KAL will run through the end of October. So, there should be plenty of time to finish! There will be some prizes, but I haven’t gotten them all lined up yet. You can stop by my group, Ninja8tofu’s Tofu Shack, for discussion having to do with the KAL. I will also update my facebook page, Ninja8tofu Designs, often during the KAL. Remember also, that you may choose to knit the adult version, Spare Time Pullover, as well. I hope you all will stop by and have a great time with us!
