New Pattern, Summer and KALS!

Yes, it has been over a month since I last blogged. If you think I’ve spent all this time relaxing, going to the beach, and spending time with my family, then you would be partially right. I’ve not done a lot of relaxing, but I have spent a bit of time at the beach and with family. It has been fun, but I am starting to buckle down and get ready for fall. Always need to be a season ahead! It is sort of difficult sometimes to plan cozy fall and winter items when it’s 90+ degrees outside, but I’m working on it!

In the meantime, I have something for you. Well, sort of. I am putting it up for pre-sale today. I have released A Little Flouro.

flouroshawl1-2

You will receive an info sheet when you purchase and on August 1st, I will upload the full pattern. Just for fun, I decided to do a KAL in my group, for this pattern. To go along with the KAL, I also decided to give you a 50% discount from now until August 1st. If that’s not enough, I also decided to include all of my shawls, scarves, and cowls in the KAL. You can get those for 30% off with the code SHAWLS from my Ravelry shop.

A Little Flouro is knit with Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light and Madelinetosh Tosh Mo Light. Both are wonderful yarns for shawls. Though, there are a very wide variety of yarns that would work for this pattern.

If shawls, scarves and cowls aren’t your thing, perhaps you want to check out a kid knit this month? Well, in August, the Knitting For Boys group on Ravelry is also having a KAL of my kid’s patterns. So, for this KAL, I offered up a code for 25% off my kid’s patterns. You don’t have to be a member of the group or even do the KAL to be able to use the code though. The code is KIDSKNITSRFUN and it is good for use on any of my kid patterns (or multiples). I do encourage to you follow the link above to the group. They are a fabulous resource for kids patterns, are a very helpful group and they have a KAL every single month. So, if you like KALs, definitely check them out.

Told You! & New Pattern Release: Spare Time Pullover

I told you I would be back soon! Today, I am releasing my Spare Time Pullover pattern. I am so happy to get this pattern out there! It’s been a long time coming. It’s aptly named because for me, that’s just what it was, a spare time project. Also, that is why it took so long to get out. I did the original numbers for it in October and knit the sample in November!

This all starts with my desire to be comfortable at all times. I wanted some ease, but too much ease. I wanted cozy, tea-sipping, comfort food eating…wait, I’m talking about a sweater right. This sweater was knit up in Madelinetosh Vintage. I really liked working with it. It knits up quickly and gorgeously.

SpareTime3I wanted something to wear at home, but wouldn’t be awful to wear to the store or a meeting with teachers or running errands in.  I also had an idea for a collar. I wanted it sort of like a shawl collar, but kind of bandanna like.

The sweater is worked from the bottom up in a combination of knitting in the round and flat knitting. The shoulders are joined using three needle bind off.

The sleeves are picked up and knit as is the collar.  There is very little seaming (just a little on the collar).

I hope you enjoyed this sneak peak at my third and final March pattern release! Thanks for stopping by! Remember, the NinjaKAL is still going on in my group until the end of the month. Hope to see you there!

Friday! Friday!

I see into the future and I see a new pattern release coming soon! Yes, I think early next week, I will have another pattern for you. I also have a shawlette going up for test knitting next week!  Wooo!

All week, I have had this desire to design a new hat. I need to get this sample knit done and then yes, it’s hat time. Maybe a scarf too. I don’t know! I just really want to make a new hat. I have this GORGEOUS skein of The Plucky Knitter Superwash Merino Worsted in Princess Phone and it’s calling to me. It’s saying, “make me into a hat…NOW!”

I had a bit of a dilemma with the blog this week. I can’t really show you any of my WIPs and I don’t have a new finished object that I can show you either! I will definitely have a FO for you next week though! I promise. What can I show you? I can show you something silly.

I decided yesterday that I really needed to clean off my desk. All of the yarn I had on it was just too much to deal with! I was afraid they would start sprouting baby skeins and then I’d really be in trouble(or in heaven, madtosh baby skeins, yes please!!) But, yes ALL of this yarn has now been moved to another, more secure location. Of course, I got two skeins of yarn in the mail today so…it starts again. sigh. The princess phone skein is in this picture!  Can you find it? There is also a WIP in this picture. So, technically there is a WIP picture this week. I have an in progress Stripe Study. I have no idea when this will get finished. I haven’t worked on it at all this week!

To close out this mish mash post. I have been thinking about doing another KAL. Though, this one would be a bit different than my Momo KAL. I am thinking of doing a baby/toddler/kid KAL in my group. I have lots of kids patterns and I thought it might be fun. Could do a giveaway or two or something. I am thinking about September for this. So, let me know what you think!

Sorry Blog, I have my reasons!

I have my reasons for being so neglectful. I promise that I will be giving you lots of love and attention soon! That’s not just an empty promise, either! Am I the only one who is so glad that May is over? I seriously was swamped in May and that made it very stressful for me. It’s not the designing that was stressful, usually the busier I am there, the better. It was all the party planning, a second birthday and a high school graduation.  I am no Martha Stewart (if I was, I’d hire someone to plan parties for me). Don’t get me wrong, I love to have plans and get things ready, it’s just the execution that is sometimes lacking. I mean, I shopped for vegan cake ingredients the day before a birthday…phew, I did find vegan soy-free margarine. Now, I buy vegan soy-free margarine all the time as my toddler cannot have dairy or soy and I know that in this small town, it’s often sold out and waiting until Saturday is a bad idea. It only took 3 stores, but I found it. Sigh…No, I will not miss you May. I know this will happen again too. My toddler’s birthday will always be in May and I have two more teens to graduate within the next 5 years.

On to knitting stuff! What have I been knitting and what is going on? In May, I started a Rock Island Shawl by Jared Flood. Fantastic pattern! I really am enjoying it when I get time to work on it. I have been swamped with design stuff, so there hasn’t been nearly as much time to dedicate to it. I am knitting mine in Madelinetosh Prairie Earl Grey. I got this skein out of a destash. It is perhaps the single, most beautiful skein of yarn I’ve ever seen and I say this as the owner of a skein of Amazonas Wollmeise 🙂 It is knitting up beautifully and I am really enjoying every single minute of it.  Yes, I am enjoying lace yarn. What is going on there?

On designing, I have some FANTASTIC surprises! I cannot wait to share, seriously GOOD stuff. I am literally giddy about it and it is so close now, I might start squeeing. That is all I can tell you about that. I also have a women’s design that I am looking for testers for. Tentatively titled, Rhombi, I am hoping to be able to get this out to testers by Monday. This is a sportweight, cardigan knit up in Squoosh Fiberarts Rapture, which is absolutely wonderful! If you are interested in test knitting especially larger sizes as I have the smaller sizes covered, let me know. Size range is: 32 [34.5, 37.5, 39, 43, 48, 52]

I have another few kid’s designs in the work too. Possibly next post, I will give you a sneak preview. One is ready to go, the other is being knit up. I am excited about them too, They are fun designs.

Last week…

Last week was an exciting one. I had the giveaway going which was lots of fun. I hope to be able to do that again soon. I got word back from two submissions that I had sent in and the word back on both of them was positive. I can say that only one of them is a baby design. The other is an adult accessories design. I can’t wait until I can share more information with you! I can say that it will indeed be exciting.

I have many works in progress going as far as free time knitting goes. I am very close to being done with my Macro Lace Cardigan. I just can’t get into knitting it right now because I am on the ribbed edge and it’s sort of like a big blanket right now and well, it’s just too warm for that! I started a shawl last week, the Spring is in the Air shawl by Kristi Holaas. It’s lovely and I was nearing an end when I forgot some yarnovers and surely dropped some stitches. So, I had to rip back some rows. I need to go get some different dental floss so I can run a lifeline before I will continue. Last night, I cast on my mom’s Slinky Ribs. She picked this out in April as her birthday sweater. But, I didn’t have time for it with my sweater and my 8 million other projects. But, I decided to make a go at that now. I don’t think it will take me too long really. I have another hat design that is nearing completion, but is in timeout for the time being. That doesn’t need to be done now as I am about to get very busy with design work anyways:)

Wollmeise 80/20 Twin in Absinthe

Wollmeise 80/20 Twin in Absinthe

I told myself a month ago that I was going to save up to buy lots of Malabrigo Rios when it’s released. I never realized how hard no buying yarn would be. I did manage to buy a few things. So, I can give you a peak here at some of my latest stashed lovlies:

Madelinetosh DK in Molly Ringwald(LOVE THIS COLOR)

Yarn!

What can I say about yarn that I haven’t said already. Do I love it? Are you crazy? YES, I love it. No, really…I LOVE it. When I first started knitting, I stumbled upon a yarn shop in Meridian, ID. That very day, I fell in LOVE with yarn. I was so overwhelmed that I don’t even remember what I bought. I just remember that I had discovered my love of yarn and I haven’t looked back. I love soft yarn, brilliantly colored yarn and rustic yarn. See what I am getting at? I love the yarns.

It wasn’t too long into my knitting experience that I stumbled upon Malabrigo Worsted. At last count, I believe I had over a 100 skeins of just Mal worsted, alone. I have hunted down the rare colorways like cortezar and Roxana Graman and I have stocked sweater quantities even though designing takes most of my time now and sweaters take me forever because of this. In fact, my first 4 designs were done in Malabrigo yarns.

Love

Here is a picture of my beloveds. My yarn and my baby. I love my other kids too, I just don’t have pictures of them surrounded by Malabrigo. I took this picture for the Malabrigo March most creative picture contest. Sadly, I did not win, but I love this picture all the same.

Earlier this year, I made up a list of yarns that I wanted to try this year.  I am doing pretty well on the list. I recently designed two hats out of Spud and Chloe Sweater(safe to say, I like that stuff). I will be posting pictures of those later this week. I have been doing a lot of stash enhancement lately as you can tell from past posts.  I have several new yarns that I adore. I have quite the collection of Madelinetosh tosh merino light and dk. I even procured a sweater quantity of Madelinetosh Vintage. I   have some of the lovely Sanguine Gryphon in my stash now too. I absolutely adore their Traveller line. I love dk weight yarns in general, but this one is just a stunner with the colors. I haven’t gotten a sweater quantity yet, but I see that in my very near future. I have a small stash of Bugga! and Skinny Traveller as well. You want pictures, don’t you?

Traveller in the colorway Ireland

This is a couple of lovely skeins, eh. Well, if you like green, that is. This is the Traveller base from The Sanguine Gryphon in the colorway, Ireland. Isn’t it lovely? It will be some sort of sweater that I will design for my son.

Madelinetosh Vintage-Graphite

I am a sucker for grays and blacks. Here is my sweater quantity of Madelinetosh Vintage. This stuff is seriously yummy (and superwash!!!) I LOVE it. If I had an unlimited budget, I would have sweater quantities of this stuff all over the place!

Well, I hope you have enjoyed my post on yarns. Like I have said before, I could take about yarns until the cows come home (when do they come home??) Anyways, I enjoyed Knit and Crochet Blog week. It was lots of fun. I have read many many blogs and I will have to add them to my regular blog roster. I hope those of you who have stopped by, keep stopping by. I have enjoyed your comments!

Ooooh exciting!

I still cannot show you my design, but for good reason.  I am designing a piece of baby/toddler clothing and while it did not get accepted for what I submitted it for, it did get accepted for something else. So, I can’t really show it to you yet despite that I will be changing it somewhat. I also have another exciting opportunity, but I don’t want to let that cat out of the bag quite yet, but news on that should come very very soon. I am really excited on both fronts.

I was reading on ravelry the other day and someone posted about how their designer brain works faster than their fingers knit. I was just thinking of this yesterday as I was sketching. I have maybe…20 sketches from the past two weeks. Now, there is no way I can get those knit up nearly as fast. Every time I peruse stitch books, I get a new idea and sometimes ideas just come to me without the stitch books.  I already have 6 active design projects.

On another point, you may notice a new tab. I am putting up a pattern page.  It’s not ready to go yet, but I really really hope to get to it by the end of the weekend. It shouldn’t be too hard right? I want to have them link back to ravelry. I am also in line to get my designer profile accessible to people outside of ravelry.

I don’t really have too much to show you aside from a few stash enhancements. I have made it much further on my Macro Lace Cardigan. It’s my nightime knitting. I am almost done with the lace panel. Yay!

Tosh Merino Light-Amber Trinket

Sanguine Gryphon Little Traveller- What Cheer

Funny story about this Little Traveller. I ordered it on accident. I meant to order Traveller. Well, I got it and decided that I would sell it on ravelry. Well, then I decided that it was really soft and buttery and thought maybe I should exchange it for Traveller. Well, then I decided I wanted to make a Honeybee Cardigan(long version) and so I ordered one more skein so that I would have enough. Yes, I have a hard time making up my mind sometimes.
