It’s a Pattern Release Friday!

Things have been quiet around here since Knit and Crochet Blog week.  I have my reasons…eeegads what a crazy few weeks it’s been. I ended up injuring my shoulder on the Sunday of Knit and Crochet Blog week. Well, it did hurt before Sunday, but I apparently did something to make it worse on Sunday.  I thought I was having a heart attack.  The pain had radiated around to my chest, down my ribcage, I was feverish and had and upset stomach. So, I went the emergency room and they checked me over and found nothing. Now, I have a pretty high threshold of pain but this was nuts. It hurt BAD. They couldn’t find anything wrong though, I was sent home with pain killers and muscle relaxants and told not to use my shoulder at all. Well, the next week is a blur. I’m not sure really what was going on. The meds helped though. My shoulder is mostly healed. There is a point where I do stretch to that I will get a sharp “take your breath away” type of pain. So, I don’t do that. I do need to go check in with my doctor next week to see if  anything else needs further examination.

On to why I am really here! I have a new pattern for you! I absolutely adore this pattern! My daughter also loves it. She keeps telling me each one is her new favorite. I guess that’s a good sign.

Sky Blue Sky is a top down raglan with short sleeves. The waist and sleeves are edged in eyelet cables. The eyelet cables are totally simple and really a nice finishing edge. Sky blue Sky also includes waist darts in the front and back. I like that waist darts are so customizable(is that a word? spell check says no). Myself, I am a bit bigger than my daughter, I might eliminate some of the front shaping and ya know…give my tummy a little more room. Or, one doesn’t have to do it at all. It’s really all how you want it to fit. My daughter is wearing size 35 with about an inch of positive ease.

I really wanted to actually do another photoshoot. When I got home to edit the pictures, I realized my daughter had stuffed her cell phone in her shirt(really?? Who does that?). UGH! So, if you see a bump around her chest area, that’s her cell phone. I told her if I couldn’t get new pics done, that I was going to tell the world what that bump was. She will hopefully never do that again. I was not able to get even one decent day to take pictures and with the name of the pattern, I figured that I should do an outdoor shoot. The weather here has been cloudy, rainy and absolutely insanely WINDY! Seriously, if you can’t stand upright due to wind gusts, it’s not a great day for pictures.

The name! Yes, the name…That is a Wilco song (Album too, actually). When I was designing this pattern, it just would not stop playing in my head. Now, I am a HUGE Wilco fan, so it isn’t unusual for Wilco songs to be playing in my head, but usually it doesn’t coincide with designing a sweater. The song doesn’t directly correlate to the design, but I can certainly relate to the sentiment in the song.

Another nice thing about this sweater is that it does not take a lot of yarn 800 yards for the smallest, 1100 for the largest. Top down sweaters can sometimes get a bit cumbersome, especially in the summer. Sky Blue Sky is knit in Quince and Co. Chickadee, which is a sportweight wool. So, it won’t get too heavy. It’s light, breathable, perfect for summer. Am I the only person who wears lightweight wool in the summer? I can’t be. Anyways, if you’d rather do a summer fiber, a sportweight cotton or linen would be nice too. Though, Chickadee makes a lovely fabric and blocks like a dream.

Well, I hope you like her. She was lots of fun to make. This blog post got long, didn’t it? Well that’s what happens when you inadvertently take a week off and then have to play catch up! I will be back with another pattern very very soon, like next week. I also will be doing a little book review soon too.
