Bad pictures beware, your days are numbered

Oh yes, I realize the pictures on my blog are less than stellar. Winter has closed in here in North Dakota and this is what I see out my window.

dreary much?

I tried to turn off the flash for this, but my pictures were too dark. In reality, it is much drearier looking.  The sky is very gray this morning. This is what I will see for the next 3-4 month(plus a few more feet of snow). This type of sky sets in here around October. It lets up once in a while. But, for the most part, this is the natural light available for picture taking. Not, impressive, I know. So, my pictures, as of late, have taken a downward turn in quality. It’s more like a downward spiral really. I have decided to take action and get a light box to light my projects. I could just rig one up. But, I’d really like a proper light box.

So, in closing, I warn you bad project and stash pictures. Your days are numbered! I will be “taking care” of you!

PS. It’d be really cool if you all said “hi” when you stopped by! I won’t bite! I promise!

I Deserve Coal

I do, I do deserve coal in my stocking! Why? I’ve been cheating on knitting. Well, I’ve been knitting too. But, I have been delving into other handicrafts, as well. It’s my poor shattered attention span. I just can’t figure out what to do. First of all, I had to do some sewing for my nieces. I made them these chalk cloth placemats. My older kids are sort of freaking out about how “cool” they are. Well, I hope the little girls like them. I still have one more to make. The other thing taking my time is that time honored holiday tradition of holiday baking. Whew, you have no idea! If you saw my kitchen right now, you’d all be horrified.

I am getting some knitting done though. I finished Capitan # 2(or 5, depending on how you look at it). It is lovely, but hard to capture in a picture. I am trying ever so hard to sneak in a moment here and a moment there for pattern writing. It’s not keeping me satisfied though. So, when the new year rolls around. I need to make a resolution to dedicate a certain amount of time to design every day. A resolution, no one ever sticks to those right? Well, I usually do. It was a New Year’s resolution that brought me to knitting in the first place. This will be easier when I have a space dedicated to my “work”. Of course, first we must get the bedroom and bath done in the basement first. I hate to sound ticked off or anything. But, I am sort of “ticked off” about that situation. But, that’s a whole ‘nother blog, a whole ‘nother time. Finally, I have started my LAST knitted gift of the holiday season. It’s for my brother-in-law, Josh. He is a big Steelers fan and I have dubbed this the Steel City Cowl. Too bad his team is stinky this year.Steelers Cowl

Christmas: a.k.a. the impending doom!!!

Well, Christmas this year, may just be my undoing. I am having such a hard time concentrating on my projects. I finished a great majority of my Christmas knitting in October during Malabrigo October Stockpile in the Malabrigo Junkies group on Ravely. (I love you junkies!) In fact, I finished so many projects that I won for most fos(finished objects) with 40. Uh, yes I am insane. But, there was Mal test yarn on the line! There was Merino Alpaca to be won! Yes, well I think I messed my brain up. I cannot concentrate anymore. I am having a serious case of Knitting Attention Deficit Disorder. Don’t laugh (well, ok go ahead!). But, I am totally serious. I jump from project to project and amidst my holiday knitting, I started writing a second baby hat pattern.  I even started a blog! What is wrong with me? Now, I don’t mean to poke fun at ADD. I don’t really. It’s extremely frustrating. Perhaps, I actually am ADD, that would explain a lot.

I have gotten something done, mostly. I just have to attach the buttons and strap on the Capitan hat for my niece. This was done in Malabrigo Chunky Tuareg. Oh, I adore Tuareg.

Capitan Hat

I think I can knit this in my sleep

I do think that I can knit this hat in my sleep. This is my fourth Capitan Hat. Everyone seems to really like this pattern. Upon seeing how this one turned out my teenage daughter asked for another. She has two already, but there is something about Malabrigo that makes you just want more. So, I have moved on to my 5th Capitan in Malabrigo Chunky, Stonechat. I hope I get enough knitting time to finish this today or tomorrow. I have a secret cowl that I must knit and some sewing to do, so I really need to clear the fogginess in my brain and get to work.

Finally, what do I love? Oh, besides my adorable baby. Yes, Malabrigo. I took advantage of some Black Friday sales and got myself a few skeins. Yes, I managed to limit it to a few skeins. It was really difficult for me, but I did it. I tried to get the ever elusive Roxana Graman colorway from, but was informed that they were out. So, instead I chose the new Deja Vu colorway and a couple of skeins of Buscando Azul. They are all lovely. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get some Buscando Azul into my stash. Me, Ms. Blue Malabrigo has never owned any Buscando Azul.

Here are the lovelies.

Malabrigo Friday Madness

I escaped with only 3 skeins damage!
