Color Lovers! Knit and Crochet Blog Week 2012 Day 1

I think about color a lot when I knit. I think about it even more when I design. I have a natural affection for several colors. Though, as of late, one might call them an obsession.

Green

Green is my happy color. I love the color green and all of it’s shades. Right now, I am really feeling those bright vibrant greens. Malabrigo Worsted Merino comes in a few greens that just absolutely make my day. There is the jubilant Sapphire Green and it’s slightly moodier cousin Verde Adriana. I just got 4 more skeins of green today. Here and here(you may need to be logged into etsy to see these, I’m not sure) are a couple of greens that I may have gotten a hold of just today. Don’t they just sing?  There is the added benefit that I look good in green.

Blue

Blue is a “safe” color for me. My kids, my significant other, and I all have blue eyes. We are all relatively pale skinned. We all look fantastic in blue. I can knit something in blue (hat, scarf, cowl) and I know someone can use it. I design in blue a lot, as well. My daughter and toddler son do most of the modeling for my designs and they both look awesome in blue.  Also, everyone likes blue. I can’t say that about orange. None of my kids like the color orange.

Gray

I really like the color( or value) gray. It goes with everything. I don’t have to worry about it clashing with my wardrobe because most of my wardrobe is also gray. Even if I pull out that rare shirt that isn’t gray, it will likely coordinate with gray. Also, I can knit a gender neutral item and it could go to either my daughter or my sons(or let’s face it, me) because anyone can pull off a good gray!

Salmon

The dreaded salmon…I just can’t do it. I’ve talked about colors that I like, now it’s time for that one color that I just cannot stand. I told myself earlier this year that I would like all colors, or I would try to. I stopped short when I thought about that coral, peach pink shade. I just cannot do it. I don’t like it. It’s one of those colors that makes me look completely hideous. I can’t really do light yellows either, but they don’t cause me to look away, salmon does. I look away fast.

What are some of your favorite colors? Have you seen any greens, blues, grays, that I need to know about? Please tell me! I love finding new yarn!

Friday! Friday!

I see into the future and I see a new pattern release coming soon! Yes, I think early next week, I will have another pattern for you. I also have a shawlette going up for test knitting next week!  Wooo!

All week, I have had this desire to design a new hat. I need to get this sample knit done and then yes, it’s hat time. Maybe a scarf too. I don’t know! I just really want to make a new hat. I have this GORGEOUS skein of The Plucky Knitter Superwash Merino Worsted in Princess Phone and it’s calling to me. It’s saying, “make me into a hat…NOW!”

I had a bit of a dilemma with the blog this week. I can’t really show you any of my WIPs and I don’t have a new finished object that I can show you either! I will definitely have a FO for you next week though! I promise. What can I show you? I can show you something silly.

I decided yesterday that I really needed to clean off my desk. All of the yarn I had on it was just too much to deal with! I was afraid they would start sprouting baby skeins and then I’d really be in trouble(or in heaven, madtosh baby skeins, yes please!!) But, yes ALL of this yarn has now been moved to another, more secure location. Of course, I got two skeins of yarn in the mail today so…it starts again. sigh. The princess phone skein is in this picture!  Can you find it? There is also a WIP in this picture. So, technically there is a WIP picture this week. I have an in progress Stripe Study. I have no idea when this will get finished. I haven’t worked on it at all this week!

To close out this mish mash post. I have been thinking about doing another KAL. Though, this one would be a bit different than my Momo KAL. I am thinking of doing a baby/toddler/kid KAL in my group. I have lots of kids patterns and I thought it might be fun. Could do a giveaway or two or something. I am thinking about September for this. So, let me know what you think!

Friday Finished Object

Hello there dear public. This week went by so fast and yet so slow at the same time. I kept thinking yesterday was Wednesday. The whole day! Like many places across the United States, the weather here has been unbearably hot! Cooped up inside all week pretty much did me in. I decided to take one day a week to show either a WIP(work in progress) or FO (finished object) in order to get myself posting more. Some people’s blogs seem so organic. They have a certain flow to them. I feel sometimes, like I am forcing it. So, I thought maybe if I just do it more, it will get easier. Like writing patterns. It seemed so daunting, at first. Now, it doesn’t seem difficult at all. It’s sort of cathartic.

My FO this week is a cute little hat, The Bergen Street Tuque. This is a pattern by Caryl Pierre of Caryl Style . This is knit up in the GORGEOUS Plucky Knitter MCN Aran in the colorway Steel Cut Oats. Have I mentioned that I have a thing for gray. Well, I have a thing for gray. It’s modeled here by my lovely daughter.  She’s practicing her “moody teen” look. She’s so silly.

Make no mistake about it though. This is MY hat. It is gorgeous and it’s all mine! This was just what I needed. The combination of a great pattern and great yarn!

That’s all for this week. Make sure you stop by early next week, I’m releasing a pattern!
